Product information "COLL-FTDI-232R-06-14P · USB-UART for TC2030 and STDC14"
Short description
USB-to-UART adapter with two target connectors: 6 pin (2 × 3, 2.54 mm) for TC2030-IDC, TC2030-IDC-NL and ECV3-06-IDC, plus 14 pin (2 × 7, 1.27 mm, STDC14) for the STDC14 cables. The IO voltage is selected by a jumper, not by choosing a different cable.
Connections
| Side | Pins | Connector | Pitch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Computer | — | Micro-USB socket | — |
| Target | 6 | Pin header, 2 × 3 | 2.54 mm (0.1″) |
| Target | 14 | Pin header STDC14, 2 × 7 | 1.27 mm (0.05″) |
Compatible — 6-pin side
- TC2030-IDC and TC2030-IDC-NL — Plug-of-Nails™, with and without legs
- ECV3-06-IDC — Edge-Connect™
Compatible — 14-pin side
- TC2030-CTX-STDC14 and TC2030-CTX-NL-STDC14 — Plug-of-Nails™
- ECV3-06-CTX-STDC14 — Edge-Connect™
All six cables end at the target on the same six-contact footprint, or on the same six edge contacts. What arrives there is therefore the same sequence of signals either way — whichever of the two connectors you go through. All six are listed under "Accessories".
One board instead of eight cables
With Tag-Connect the IO voltage is part of the cable: 1.8 V, 3.3 V, 5 V or supplied by the target, each with and without legs, plus the regulated versions.
Here the decision sits on the board. The cable is the one you already have for debug access — a TC2030-IDC or an Edge-Connect cable — and you set the voltage with a jumper.
Four positions, one board
| Position | Where the voltage comes from |
|---|---|
| 1.8 V | from the adapter |
| 3.3 V | from the adapter |
| 5 V | straight from the USB port |
| from target | the target board sets the level |
The fourth position is the one to start with when in doubt: the adapter then follows whatever sits on contact 1.
The 14-pin connector
The 14-pin 1.27 mm connector is the one ST calls STDC14, and many boards now carry it. Tag-Connect offers no UART cable for it — the manufacturer does not cover this combination. Through the STDC14 cables you reach targets that would otherwise need a second footprint.
Pin assignment, 6-pin
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | V_Target |
| 2 | CTS |
| 3 | RxD |
| 4 | TxD |
| 5 | GND |
| 6 | RTS |
The same sequence Tag-Connect's FTDI cables put on the footprint.
Pin assignment, 14-pin (STDC14)
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 3 | V_Target |
| 4 | CTS |
| 6 | TxD |
| 7 | GND |
| 8 | RTS |
| 12 | RxD |
Not connected: 1, 2, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14.
Included
The adapter board with the jumpers for voltage selection. The USB cable is not included, nor is the Tag-Connect or Edge-Connect cable to the target board — you pick both to suit your setup.
Technical data
- Interface: USB to UART (TTL levels)
- Chip: FTDI 232R in a QFN-32 package — fitted with either FT232RQ or FT232RNQ, depending on availability. The two are pin-compatible, present themselves to the computer alike and use the same driver.
- IO voltage: by jumper — 1.8 V, 3.3 V, 5 V (straight from the USB port) or supplied by the target
- Target connectors: 6 pin 2.54 mm and 14 pin 1.27 mm (STDC14)
- Computer side: Micro-USB
